ShadowScan

About us - How it works & Who we are

How does it work?

This project is working to make the internet safer by using AI to scan forums and social media sites for illegal child abuse material. Then it is reviewed by us to make sure it is not a false detection and we report it so it gets taken down.

We run these scans once a day, and each scan usually catches around 100 images/videos.

Who are we?

I am a high school student from Oregon. I've always been into programming; I started when I was 11 by making Minecraft plugins in "Skript". My freshman year, I started this project because I wanted to do something to help victims of child abuse.

How can we contact you?

The best way to contact me is via email contact@shadowscan.org. It's important to note, please DO NOT send me reports. I am not law enforcement and not equipped to handle them.

Biggest takedowns?

6/14/2024 - We started monitoring disboard and discord servers, Using the information gathered we can catch people looking for kids and get them banned and reported to law enforcement. (100+ servers have been taken down after the first 3 days of it running and an unknown amount of user reports)

6/7/2024 - We worked with the FBI to takedown a CSAM forum after finding its backend server IP.

5/12/2024 - We started shadowscan and took down ~1000 images/videos due to the huge backlog of content not taken down yet.
